Are you a Rutgers undergraduate student interested in exploring how social media shapes society and politics? Consider joining the Technology and Democracy Research Hub Spring 2026 paid internship cohort, open to students from all majors. This program offers technical training and hands-on experience in social media research and the opportunity to co-author a report. Interns will dive into big questions about how platforms shape what we see and believe online — exploring topics like echo chambers, misinformation, and polarization. No technical background required—just curiosity, commitment, and a passion for social media and politics.
Note, this opportunity is open to undergraduates enrolled at Rutgers-New Brunswick in Spring 2026, and requires a weekly time commitment of 10 hours, including 1-2 hours a week of in-person meetings. Participation in the cohort requires availability for weekly meetings via Zoom or in-person on Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Wood Lawn Carriage House (185 Ryders Lane, New Brunswick, NJ 08901).
Students can expect to commit approximately 140–160 hours of work over the semester. They are encouraged to consult with their individual academic departments to determine whether academic internship or research credit may be available. Please note that internship credit cannot be granted by multiple departments for the same internship experience.
For questions, please contact Dr. Eyal Hanfling, Director of the Technology and Democracy Research Hub.
